Q1. Are AST's Rolling Element Bearings RoHS Compliant?
Yes, all of AST's rolling element bearings are RoHS compliant. Contact AST if you require certification of this fact. Separately, there are a handful of plain bearings which include lead as part of their functional design (lubrication). These are clearly identified in their material makeup.
RoHS stands for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive adopted by the European Union (EU) and took effect in July 2006). RoHS is often referred to as the "lead-free directive," but it restricts the use of the following six substances:
- Lead (Pb)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Cadmium (Cd)
- Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+)
- Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
- Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)
