Bearing Lubrication Tips and Considerations

September 19, 2014 by Christine Berlly

bearingtips.com blog imageThe creation of educational articles and whitepapers is one of our preferred methods of providing Value Beyond the Part at AST. We were pleased to be able to work with Bearingtips.com recently to provide information on a bearing lubrication article.

BearingTips.com, a new bearing focused resource by Design World, takes an in-depth look at the role of lubrication in the performance and life of rolling element bearings. The author, Michael Jermann (an assistant editor for Design World) draws much of his information from AST whitepapers.

The article explains grease options (application, distribution, and amounts, as well as the dangers of over-greasing) and oil application methods (pick-up ring, bath, jet, mist and oil-spot methods). All are paramount considerations for applications, as the incorrect choice can result in greatly reduced efficiency or lead to the bearing failing prematurely.

We highly recommend giving the article a read, and keeping an eye on this new online resource, which promises to be an excellent source for a multitude of bearing-related topics. To read the article on Bearingtips.com, click here.
